MITCHELL SOCCER ASSOCIATION
MINUTES FOR 8/11/08
Present: Barb Gronseth, Steven Ptak, Cami Martin, Scott Duff, Tonya Meaney, Laurie Hamar, Deanna Wempe, and Jeff Smernik.
Absent: Dan Williams, Denise Werner, Tom Berg, Scott Mullenmeister, and Terry Aslesen.
Fall Soccer: There was discussion on the boys fall season being only JV and not Varsity and if we were going to be refunded our money for signing up for a varsity team. Laurie will check on that. There are 34 girls and 25 boys signed up. If more boys sign up now that practice has started they will be put on a waiting list since you can only roster 25 on a team. The future of the boys being sanctioned by the high school was also discussed. There seems to be talk that this will not happen and how to get parents and the board involved in making sure this does happen.
Board Positions: We decided on new board positions. At this time, we still need a president. Treasurer - Steven Ptak, secretary- Tom Berg, registrar-Tonya Meaney, equipment coordinator-Barb Gronseth, concessions- Trena Skufka, concession scheduling -Rosemary Menning, risk management- Jeanette Naser , parent reps-Laurie Hamar, Terry Aslesen, Deanna Wempe, and Cami Martin, referee assigner- Bill Nygard, state rep-Denise Werner, player development and 5th and 6th grade coordinator-we are still waiting to see if Scott Mullenmeister will be doing this. We need to update our email list since we have new members.
Schedule changes: Coach Duff informed us of some schedule changes for the girls’team this fall. The first one is the Watertown games which will now be played on Monday Sept 8th at 4 and 6 instead of Friday, August 22nd. The second one is the SF Lincoln game which will now be played on Tuesday Sept 16th at 4 and 6 in Mitchell instead of on the 20th.
Parent meetings: We also discussed what we would be talking about at the parent meetings this week. Volunteer hours for families were increased to 6 hours this fall because of the amount of days the concession stand needs to be opened. There will also be some committees they can serve on. Laurie will be talking about the brick fundraiser and the need for more bricks to be sold.
A ref clinic will be held in Yankton on August 30thfor anyone interested in becoming a ref. Billie Kelly will need refs again this fall for park and recsoccer. We also discussed whether we would pay for hotel rooms for out of town refs who will be here for high school games. Deanna will check with the Hampton about prices since we have used them in the past. 5th and 6th grade soccer will be starting September 4th and we will need volunteers to help coordinate.
Our next meeting will have to be changed to Sept 15th at 7:00pm since we have a soccer game on Sept 8th.
